Day 9 – August 24th, 2008 – Roaming Through Rome
With only a single day to explore Rome, we knew we had to make every moment count. After a filling breakfast, we caught a nearby train into the city. Rome, with its rich tapestry of history and culture, deserves at least a few days—but we did our best to take in its essence.
We marvelled at the Colosseum, tossed coins into the Trevi Fountain, and wandered through the ruins of the Roman Forum. The Pantheon stood in silent splendour, and the grandeur of Vatican City left us in awe. It was a whirlwind day, packed with beauty, architecture, and layers of history stretching back over two millennia.
Exhausted yet elated, we returned to the campsite. The evening unfolded with our now-familiar rhythm: barbeque starters with beer and wine, followed by a comforting meal of chicken curry and rice. Tomorrow, Pisa awaited.
