Day 10 – August 25th, 2008 – The Tower and the Coast
After a quick breakfast of toast, omelette, and tea, we checked out of Camping Flaminio, paying 163 Euros for two nights. Our first stop was Pisa, around 350 kilometres away.
We reached the famous city by early afternoon. There it stood—The Leaning Tower of Pisa, a white marble masterpiece defying gravity. Built in 1372, leaning at 13 degrees and still standing proud after more than 850 years, it’s not just a tower, but a tower of bells—seven floors, seven bells.
After marvelling at its crooked elegance and taking the customary “holding the tower” photos, we continued our journey to Frejus in the south of France—420 scenic kilometres along the Italian Riviera.
We arrived at Camping Resort La Baume La Palmeraie at around 7:30 p.m., having passed through Monte Carlo and Nice along the way. The drive itself was a visual feast, hugging the coastline with glimpses of turquoise waters.
That night, under the warm Frejus sky, we relaxed with drinks and snacks while dinner—vegetable curry and rice—simmered away on the stove. A long day, but one filled with beauty and wonder.
