24 February 2026 – A Day at Leisure on the Coast

Our second day was spent relaxing at Leopard Beach Resort. Sometimes, to reconnect with a place, one must simply sit within it and let it work on the senses.

We enjoyed the beautiful jacuzzi, swimming pool, and sauna, and later took a long walk on the beach. Along the way we spoke to some Maasai men and took photographs with them. Encounters like that added to the feeling that we were not just tourists passing through, but travellers trying to absorb the spirit of the land again.

That afternoon we had tea with local mandazi, a soft, slightly sweet East African bread that instantly felt nostalgic. Food has a way of unlocking memory, and the taste of mandazi on the Kenyan coast seemed to belong exactly where it was.

In the evening we decided to dine at one of the resort’s Asian restaurants. Even that small outing turned into a story. We were taken there in one of the resort’s electric buggies, but the first buggy failed to work, and the second one was also clearly struggling for power. By the time we arrived, we were already amused. Unfortunately, the food and ambience were only average. There was just one other couple in the restaurant, and the dishes were not especially tasty. Even so, these little disappointments often become part of the charm of a journey when looked back on later.
