Day 04 17 July 2013 – Culture, History, and a Birthday Surprise
This day was dedicated to exploring Goa beyond its beaches.
We began with Fort Aguada, a 17th-century Portuguese fort overlooking the Arabian Sea. Built to guard against Dutch and Maratha invasions, it also housed a freshwater spring that supplied passing ships—hence the name “Aguada,” meaning water.
Next, we visited Old Goa, once the capital during Portuguese rule and often called the “Rome of the East.” Its grand churches, including the Basilica of Bom Jesus, stand as reminders of its colonial past.
We then travelled to the serene Mangueshi Temple, one of Goa’s most important Hindu temples, before looping back via Dona Paula and Panjim.
That evening was special—it was my birthday. We decided to celebrate at Tito’s Restaurant, one of Goa’s most iconic spots.
As we sat enjoying our meal, a sudden gust of wind swept through, toppling our glasses. The result? A rather amusing moment—and a complimentary refill to mark the occasion!
